David McKinney, originally from Portadown, is the proud founder and leader of Carleton Dental Practice. After graduating from Queen’s University Belfast in 1986, David gained invaluable experience in general practice in both Belfast and Armagh before establishing Carleton Dental in 1994. His vision was to create a practice that not only delivers exceptional patient care but also fosters innovation and excellence in dentistry.
Although David stepped back from clinical practice following the COVID-19 pandemic, his commitment to the growth and success of Carleton Dental remains stronger than ever. Under his leadership, the practice continues to thrive, embracing new advancements and maintaining the highest standards of care.
David is passionate about education and professional development. He has served as an Educational Supervisor on four occasions, mentoring new dentists and guiding them in their early careers. Additionally, as the Northern Ireland Clinical Audit Adviser, David plays a vital role in raising dental standards across the region through clinical audits.
In 2014, David was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education (PGCCE) with commendation from Queen’s University, reflecting his dedication to training and mentoring both his staff and fellow professionals. Expanding his expertise further, David gained a Certificate of Competence in the Prescription of Botulinum Toxin and Perioral Fillers in 2021, enabling him to support the practice’s facial aesthetics practitioners.
David’s unwavering dedication to the practice and his team ensures that Carleton Dental remains at the forefront of dentistry, delivering exceptional care to patients and providing a nurturing environment for professional growth.
Angela qualified as a Dental Hygienist from Birmingham Dental Hospital in 1990 with a Cert in Dental Hygiene. Angela successfully completed the Further and Adult Education Teaching Certificate (FAETC) in 1993 and joined Carleton Dental Practice in November 1994 on its opening.
Angela has stepped back from her Clinical commitment. As a partner in the Practice, Angela is involved with many aspects of the day to day running of Carleton Dental Practice. She is particularly focused on training and ensuring we are compliant with the latest advice and guidelines. The practice has always passed RQIA annual inspections with flying colours thanks to her dedication.
Angela is married to David and they have a daughter Megan. In her spare time Angela enjoys cycling, Yoga, Pilates and going to concerts.
Naomi has been an integral part of Carleton Dental Practice since joining in September 2013 as a newly qualified Dental Nurse. Over the years, she has demonstrated exceptional dedication and versatility, transitioning from Lead Receptionist—a position she held for five years—to becoming our Practice Manager in August 2021.
Naomi’s leadership skills are reinforced by her Institute of Leadership and Management Level 5 Diploma in Dental Practice Management. Her clinical expertise and hands-on experience make her an invaluable asset to the team, and she continues to occasionally assist in surgery to stay connected with patient care and maintain her clinical skills.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Naomi brings warmth and enthusiasm to the practice. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring new restaurants, indulging in some retail therapy, and spending quality time socialising with her friends. Naomi’s passion for both her role and her personal pursuits makes her a remarkable part of the Carleton Dental team.
Niall graduated from Queens University Belfast in July 2014. He joined Carleton Dental Practice in October 2018 having previously worked in a number of practices throughout Northern Ireland.
Niall has a particular interest in restorative treatment and has been awarded a postgraduate certificate in restorative dentistry. This will enable him to offer advanced restorative and cosmetic treatments to his patients. Niall enjoys giving his patients the options of composite bonding, tooth whitening and veneers to enhance their smile. He adopts a friendly and easy-going approach, aiming to make the patient's dental experience as relaxed as possible. Outside of work, Niall plays for his local football team, enjoys the occasional round of golf and going to the gym.
Conor graduated from the University of Dundee in 2016 and began his career as a Dental Associate in Scotland before joining Carleton Dental Practice in July 2019.
He enjoys all aspects of general dentistry but has a particular passion for helping anxious patients feel comfortable and at ease during their visits. Conor’s excellent communication skills and approachable manner make him especially skilled in treating nervous patients. He also has a keen interest in helping older patients restore their smiles and confidence by providing high-quality dentures, believing that everyone deserves to smile and eat with ease.
Outside of dentistry, Conor enjoys playing football, golf, and the guitar.
Aoife joined Carleton Dental in July 2021 after graduating from Dundee Dental School in 2016. With experience in general practice in Scotland, Aoife has quickly become a firm favourite among patients at Carleton Dental, thanks to her approachable nature and dedication to patient care.
In 2024, Aoife embraced the role of Educational Supervisor, where she trains and mentors new graduates, sharing her expertise and passion for dentistry.
Outside of work, Aoife enjoys painting and running. She also treasures spending quality time with her husband and son.
Adam joined the Carleton team in August 2023 after completing his foundation training in Edinburgh. Since then, he has been committed to expanding his expertise through postgraduate courses in oral surgery, porcelain onlays, and anterior composites. These advanced skills enable Adam to provide a broad range of treatments, helping to restore his patients’ smiles with precision and care.
Originally from the area, Adam is thrilled to be working in his home county, serving the community he knows and loves.
Sinead graduated with Honours from the Peninsula School of Medicine & Dentistry in 2018. Since then, she has gained extensive experience in both practice and hospital settings, specializing in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, and Restorative Dentistry. Her dedication to ongoing learning is demonstrated through her Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and her accreditation in dental sedation. Additionally, Sinead has trained with the prestigious Harley Academy in London to offer dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections.
Passionate about helping patients achieve their oral and facial health goals, Sinead specialises in smile makeovers, cosmetic dentistry, and Invisalign Clear Aligners, creating life-changing transformations for her patients. Known for her caring and calming nature, she excels in putting anxious patients at ease with her friendly, reassuring, and professional approach.
Outside of work, Sinead enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and going on long walks with her dog. She is a valued member of our team, bringing expertise and warmth to every patient interaction.
Claire graduated from Queen’s University in 2017 and spent five years practicing in Carlisle before returning to Northern Ireland in 2022. Known for her caring and reassuring manner, Claire is especially skilled at working with children, who respond warmly to her approachable nature.
A true team player, Claire’s excellent communication skills help put her patients at ease, making every visit a positive experience. Outside of dentistry, she enjoys playing hockey and hiking, embracing her love for staying active.
Claire shares a connection with David as a fellow former pupil of Friend’s School in Lisburn, and we’re thrilled to have another old scholar as part of the team!
Grace graduated from Queen’s University in 2022 and completed her foundation year in Liverpool. Inspired to become a dentist from a young age, Grace saw first-hand the transformative impact of dentistry during her own orthodontic treatment. She is passionate about all aspects of dentistry and is dedicated to providing the highest level of care to her patients.
Returning to her roots, Grace joined the Carleton team part-time in September 2023 before becoming full-time in September 2024. Fun fact: Grace was once a patient of David’s during her school years! We’re delighted to have her as part of our team, where her skill and enthusiasm shine through in her work.
Laoise joined our team of clinicians in September 2023, shortly after graduating from Queen’s University Belfast. She completed her foundation year at Carleton under the guidance of Dr. Aoife and is excited to build her career in dentistry, continuing a proud family tradition—her father, uncle, grandfather, and great uncle were all dentists.
Outside of work, Laoise has a passion for horse riding and competes in Eventing Ireland with her horse, Poppy. We’re thrilled to have Laoise on our team, bringing both dedication and enthusiasm to her role.
Janet graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2000 with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene. With over 24 years of experience, she is passionate about making a positive impact on her patients’ lives by improving their oral health and enhancing their smiles. Janet has a special interest in treating patients with periodontal disease, taking pride in the transformations she achieves by motivating patients to take charge of their oral health.
Janet is also skilled at helping nervous patients feel comfortable, firmly believing that everyone deserves a healthier mouth. As a highly qualified Facial Aesthetics Practitioner, she offers facial line softening and dermal fillers, helping patients achieve a more youthful appearance and boosting their confidence. Janet’s expertise and dedication make her a valued member of our team.
Karen has been an integral part of Carleton Dental Practice since joining in July 1998 and qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2002. Known for her warm and empathetic manner, Karen is highly valued by both patients and colleagues. Her exceptional organisational skills and efficiency make her an indispensable member of the team.
As Lead Dental Nurse, Karen ensures that the practice maintains the highest standards of cross-infection control, a responsibility that has become even more vital since the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, she completed the BDA Certificate in Oral Health Education in March 2018 and enjoys visiting schools and nurseries to give engaging talks on oral health, covering topics like tooth brushing and dietary advice.
Outside of work, Karen enjoys walking, cycling, and spending quality time with her family, especially her two daughters and son.
Natalie joined Carleton Dental in March 2015 and qualified as a Dental Nurse in February 2017.
Fun fact: her connection to the practice goes way back—her father was the contractor who built our premises in 1994!
Known for her amazing sense of humour and cheerful personality, Natalie is a ray of sunshine in the practice. Whether she’s at reception or in the surgery, she always gives patients a warm and friendly welcome.

Bernie is a qualified dental nurse with 18 years of experience and is proud to have expanded her expertise as a Patient Care Coordinator. She is passionate about helping patients achieve their dream smile and works tirelessly to ensure they get the care they need. A highly motivated professional, Bernie is dedicated to supporting patients throughout their dental journey, making sure they feel comfortable and well-informed. With six surgeries in operation at Carleton, Bernie always has a full schedule and thrives in a busy environment.
Outside of work, Bernie enjoys spending time with her family and indulging in a bit of shopping.
Weronika qualified as a dental nurse in 2019 and has a true passion for dentistry, enjoying all aspects of her work. Eager to continue advancing her skills, she is committed to furthering her career with courses in areas like radiography and oral health education. Weronika is particularly skilled at engaging with patients, making sure they feel comfortable and informed.
She has also completed and passed her Patient Care Coordinator course, where she excels at understanding patient needs and explaining the various ways we can assist them.
Outside of work, Weronika enjoys socializing with friends, shopping, and taking her dogs for walks. She brings a warm, welcoming energy to our practice and is dedicated to delivering excellent patient care.
Nicole qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2023 after joining Carleton Dental in 2021. She thrives in a team environment and values the strong friendships she’s built with her colleagues. Her bubbly personality keeps team spirits high, and she loves interacting with both the nurses and patients, always making sure everyone feels special.
Outside of work, Nicole enjoys shopping and socializing with friends over the weekends. Her positive attitude and caring nature make her a wonderful addition to our team.
Ellen qualified as a Dental Nurse after passing her NEBDN in 2022 and became part of the team in November 2020. Known for her infectious sense of humour, Ellen loves to laugh and create a fun atmosphere with her colleagues. She’s a dedicated and hard-working professional who is passionate about her career and always strives for the best outcomes.
Ellen plays a key role in fostering a positive team ethos at Carleton, always willing to go the extra mile. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and pets, making the most of her downtime.
Grace joined our team in 2023 after relocating to the Portadown area from Belfast. A talented and versatile member of the team, Grace can be found both in the surgery and on reception. She has a natural ability to chat with patients and put them at ease, making their visits more comfortable.
In addition to her dental qualifications, Grace is a trained pastry chef, and the team often enjoys her delicious creations with a cup of coffee during their breaks. She brings warmth, skill, and a touch of sweetness to our practice!
Ellie joined Carleton Dental in 2021 and successfully passed her Dental Nurse Exam in 2024. Known for her great sense of humour, Ellie has a natural ability to make patients laugh and feel more relaxed during their visits. A fantastic team player, she’s always ready to help her fellow nurses and contributes to a fun, energetic atmosphere—there’s never a dull moment when Ellie is around.
Outside of work, Ellie enjoys staying fit, loves music, and is an avid concert-goer. Her positive energy and friendly nature make her a valued member of our team.
Kaitlyn joined our team in 2023 and qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2024. Her pleasant nature is appreciated by everyone at the practice, and she always goes above and beyond to ensure her patients feel comfortable and at ease during their visits.
In her spare time, Kaitlyn enjoys dancing and staying fit. She runs her own dance school and also competes in dance events. Her energy and dedication make her a great addition to our team!
Sophie joined our team in January 2025, having qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2023. She’s excited to be working alongside her sister Kaitlyn, making this the second time we’ve had two sisters at the practice.
Outside of work, Sophie enjoys walking her dog, photography, and, of course, indulging in the firm favourite of window shopping. We’re delighted to have Sophie as part of the Carleton Dental family!
Samantha returned to Carleton Dental in 2021 after a ten-year break, having previously relocated to London in 2012, where she worked as a Dental Receptionist in Finchley. With a wealth of knowledge in the dental field, Samantha is dedicated to making every patient feel valued and cared for. Her pleasant manner and reassuring smile are exactly what patients need to feel at ease during their visits.
Recently, Samantha completed a leadership and management course to further develop the skills needed to lead her reception team effectively. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her son and daughter.
Nicole joined Carleton Dental Practice as part of an exciting career change and has quickly made an impact with her enthusiasm and dedication. Her warm personality and commitment to exceptional patient care make her an invaluable member of our front-of-house team.
Outside of work, Nicole enjoys staying active at the gym, indulging in some shopping, and spending quality time with her beloved nephews. Her friendly and approachable nature ensures that every patient feels welcome and well cared for during their visit to Carleton.
Calvin joined the practice in 2024 after a successful career as a hairdresser on film sets, where he developed a knack for working under pressure. The fast-paced nature of his previous work makes him well-suited to handle the busy environment at Carleton Dental, especially when all surgeries are in operation.
In addition to his role at the practice, Calvin also models and has recently appeared in advertisements for Translink and the opening of Grand Central Station. His diverse background adds a unique flair to our team!
